
Why Most Infrared Heaters Actually Die (And How We Fixed It)
Here is a little secret about infrared towel rails: it’s rarely the heating element that gives up the ghost. Usually, the element is just fine. The real killer is the lead-wire connection. Think about it. When you crank up the heat, that spot where the wire meets the quartz tube becomes a total hotspot. Most cheap heaters just use some basic glue or a loose crimp to hold things together. It looks fine on the shelf, but it doesn’t last. The insulation cracks, the wire starts to rust from the inside out, and then—pop—you’ve got a short circuit. The problem with “standard” seals A lot of budget units rely on low-temp silicones. The problem is that in a high-heat environment, that stuff shrinks and peels away. Once that seal breaks, moisture and oxygen sneak in. It’s a recipe for disaster. We see it all the time with those bargain-bin units—the wiring looks connected, but there’s no real airtight seal. That’s how you end up with an arc flash or a heater that just stops working for no apparent reason. How we do things differently We decided to stop playing that game. Instead, we use a multi-stage process you’d usually only find in high-end industrial gear. We use high-temp ceramic adhesives and heat-shrink sleeves that can handle over 200°C. But we don’t just “glue” the wire in place. We create a mechanical bond that grows and shrinks at the same rate as the quartz glass. It means when the heater warms up and cools down, the seal moves with the glass instead of fighting against it. No cracking. No leaking. One quick heads-up There is a trade-off here. Because this seal is so heavy-duty, the lead wires are pretty rigid. Please, don’t try to bend them into a sharp angle during installation. If you force them into a tight corner, you’ll probably crack the very insulation you paid for. Just give them a bit of breathing room. We built these to actually last. By keeping the electrical junction safe from the heat, we’ve killed off the main reason these heaters fail. You get a connection that stays solid, even after months of daily use.
