The Voltage Headache
Here is the thing about scaling a lamp up to 3 meters: voltage drop is a nightmare. If you stick with standard low voltage, your current spikes. Suddenly, you’re dealing with massive cables that get hot just from carrying the load. To fix this, we spec these units with higher voltage. It keeps the current under control and ensures you get the wattage you actually need per meter. Just a heads-up: make sure your power supply and transformers are actually built for these custom loads. If they aren’t, you’ll end up burning out the ends of your tubes.
Why Gold?
It sounds fancy, but the gold coating on the quartz envelope is all about physics. Low-E glass is literally designed to reflect infrared energy. If you use a clear quartz lamp, you’re just wasting power and risking a meltdown of the tube itself. The gold layer changes the game. It bounces the heat back toward the filament, making the whole thing way more efficient. Instead of wasting energy, it pushes that heat exactly where it needs to go: straight into the glass.
The Reality of Installation
These things are long, and they’re fragile. One wrong move or a clumsy bump during install, and that quartz snaps. It’s a gut-wrenching sound.
