Most bathroom mirror heaters are basically sealed boxes. They work great—until they don’t. After a few years of steam and heat, a heating element eventually burns out. And when that happens? You’re usually stuck ripping the whole assembly out of the wall. It’s a pain, it’s expensive, and it’s honestly a waste. We decided to do things differently. We went with a modular infrared design. The “Swap and Go” Approach Instead of treating the heating element like it’s part of the mirror’s DNA, we treat it like a lightbulb. It’s a part that’s meant to be replaced. We built a chassis where the infrared tubes aren’t hard-wired into the main power line. They just sit in a slot with quick-connect terminals. So, if a tube dies, you don’t have to tear the frame apart. You just pop the old module out, drop a new one in, and you’re back in business. The Trade-off (Because nothing is perfect) Here’s the deal: these infrared modules blast heat directly onto the glass. It clears fog almost instantly. It’s satisfying to watch, but that kind of heat puts a lot of stress on the seals. If you run these at max power all the time, those gaskets are going to wear down faster than they would in a slower, low-heat system. We use high-temp silicone to keep things tight, but you still need to give the seals a quick look every five years or so. Just a simple check to make sure everything is still airtight. No More Soldering in a Tiny Bathroom If you’ve ever tried to do electrical work in a cramped bathroom, you know it’s a nightmare. With this setup, you aren’t messing around with a soldering iron while leaning over a sink. You just grab the right wattage and length for your replacement tube, slide it into the bracket, and wire it up. It takes minutes. It turns a “call the contractor” disaster into a simple part swap.
