
Why we put our bathroom heaters through “the torture chamber”
Bathrooms are basically a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got freezing cold air one minute and a thick cloud of steam the next. It’s a brutal environment. That’s why we don’t just build these IR lamps and hope for the best. We put them through something called damp-heat aging. Basically, we simulate years of steamy showers and humidity in just a few weeks to see what breaks.
The battle against moisture
Here is the problem: when you have constant cycles of heating and cooling in a humid room, moisture loves to sneak in. If even a tiny bit of water vapor gets past the seal or into the electrical terminals, you get oxidation. That’s where things go south. Oxidation creates resistance, resistance leads to overheating, and before you know it, the insulation melts and the lamp burns out. To stop that, we throw our lamps into chambers with 95% humidity and crank up the heat. If a seal is even slightly off, the vacuum inside the halogen tube fails and the filament disappears in a blink.It’s a brutal test, but it’s the only way to be sure.
Dealing with the “Shock”
Think about it: you walk into a cold bathroom and flip the switch. In a matter of seconds, that lamp goes from freezing to 1000°C. That’s a massive amount of stress on the glass. We test for “thermal shock” to make sure the glass doesn’t just crack under the pressure. But here is a pro tip: these high-wattage lamps put out a ton of heat. If your fixture’s housing isn’t vented properly, that heat just sits there. It doesn’t matter how good the lamp is—if the housing is a heat trap, the internal parts will wear out way faster.
How we know it actually works
We don’t guess. We track failure rates over thousands of hours. We’re looking for the small stuff—things like the quartz darkening or the contacts getting pitted. A lamp that survives our aging test keeps its brightness and stays stable. We share these results because nobody wants to deal with a heater that dies the second a customer starts a hot shower. It just works. Simple as that.
