
Why we put our bathroom heaters through “torture tests”
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got thick steam, constant humidity, and temperature swings that would make most gadgets quit on the spot. We don’t just put these infrared heaters together and hope for the best. That’s a recipe for a disaster on someone’s ceiling. Instead, we put every batch through what we call “damp-heat aging tests.” Basically, we try to break them before they ever leave our warehouse.
The fight against moisture
Water and high-wattage electricity? Not a great mix. Here’s the thing: water vapor is sneaky. It finds every tiny gap in a housing. If a seal isn’t perfect, that moisture hits the electrical terminals, and suddenly you’ve got oxidation or a short circuit. Not a fun way to start your morning. To stop this, we use a controlled chamber to simulate years of steamy showers in just a few days. We crank up the heat, soak the units in humidity, and flip the power on and off. If a solder joint is weak or the insulation is cheap, it’ll burn out in our lab. Which is exactly where we want it to happen—not in your customer’s home.
The “breathing” problem
Infrared lamps get incredibly hot. When they kick on, the materials expand. When they cool down, they shrink. Think of it like the unit is “breathing.” Every time it cycles, it can actually suck moist air right into the internal guts of the machine. This is where a lot of companies cut corners. They use cheap plastics to save a few cents, but those materials warp or flake when they’re hit with 90% humidity and extreme heat. We don’t do that. We use materials that can take a beating and keep their shape, no matter how many times they heat up and cool down.
What “passing” actually looks like
For us, a “pass” isn’t just a checkbox. It means the unit still pulls the right wattage and the safety insulation is rock solid after the torture test. We hunt for the smallest signs of rust on the wiring or a tiny leak in the housing. If a heater can’t survive our chamber, there’s no way it’ll survive five years in a busy family bathroom. Simple as that.
