
Building Infrared Heaters That Actually Survive the Rain
Most people think outdoor heating is just about cranking up the wattage. But if you’ve ever seen a heater fry the moment a storm hits, you know it’s really about the battle against water. When we build our IP66 heaters, we aren’t just checking a box on a spec sheet. We’re trying to keep every single drop of moisture and every speck of dust away from the electrical guts of the machine. The fight against the fog An IP66 rating is basically a fancy way of saying the unit is dust-tight and can take a direct hit from a powerful water jet without flinching. We make that happen with precision-molded gaskets and cable entries that are sealed tight. Here’s the thing: it’s not just the rain you have to worry about. It’s the fog. Condensation loves to settle on the reflector and the lens. If that happens, you get hotspots or, worse, a short circuit. To stop that, we sealed the internal chamber. By keeping the humid air from swirling around the lamp, the heating element stays dry and the reflector doesn’t rust or oxidize. Keeping the sparks away from the splashes Water and electricity are a terrible mix. One bad splash and your heater is a paperweight. To prevent that, we wrap the wiring connections in high-temperature silicone seals. We basically create a “no-fly zone” for water, keeping the splash zones far away from the power supply. It means you can deal with a downpour—or even a heavy cleaning session—without worrying about an arc-over. The trade-off (and what you need to know) Now, there’s a catch. When you seal something this tightly to keep water out, the heat has nowhere to go. The inside of the unit gets hot—fast. Because of this, you can’t just cram these heaters into a tight corner. You need to give them some breathing room so the heat sink can actually do its job. If you pack them too close together, the thermal protection will kick in and shut the unit down before the wiring starts to melt. We build these things to take a beating. By obsessing over the seals at the entry points, we make sure the lamp and the circuitry last for years. You get a heater that actually works, even when the weather turns ugly.
